I had the honor of speaking with Dennis Lennox this afternoon to discuss the status of his exploratory bid in Michigan’s 1st Congressional district. MI 1, you may recall, is currently held by Bart Stupak.

No stranger to politics, Lennox had considered a run against Stupak in large part because of Stupak’s turn-around on the Health Care bill he initially said he could not support. Lennox, like a large number of people in Stupak’s district (and across the state), believes Stupak “threw the views of his constituents under the bus for 30 pieces of silver” with his vote last week.

Lennox tells 73Wire and The Minority Report that he has decided to end his exploratory bid so he can focus his energies on directly addressing the needs of the people of Michigan. He added that he is throwing all his support to Dr. Dan Benishek, and he will be asking every other Republican contender for Stupak’s seat to do likewise. As Lennox points out, “this is not the time for a protracted and expensive primary, especially considering the impoverished state so many people find themselves in right now in this District.” I agree; in a time of multi-million dollar campaigns, the people of Michigan can put their money to better use.

Lennox is very troubled by what is happening to people all across Michigan. He told me that 1 family leaves Michigan every 12 minutes, that by the end of this school year 20 thousand kids will have dropped out of school, and that unemployment all across the state is at unprecedented (and unacceptable) levels-far above the national averages. He believes we can do better than that..that Michigan can do better than that, and he plans to DO something about it.

You can donate here to help Dennis Lennox get to Lansing, and help him help make things better for the people of Michigan.

I am thankful for having had the opportunity to meet with him today, and I wish him the best of luck in his bid for that seat.
