This just in (to coin a phrase):

In a near reversal of last month’s numbers, Republican Pat Toomey leads U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, 46-to-41 percent, in the Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Toomey, a former congressman, trailed Specter 49 percent to 42 percent on March 2. The two candidates who faced each other in the 2004 GOP primary have swapped the lead by small margins since last fall.

Toomey also leads U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, who is challenging Specter in the Democratic primary, by 42 percent to 34 percent. In interviews Wednesday, Specter expressed confidence about the May 18 Democratic primary, although said he was taking nothing for granted.

Great news if you’re in Pennsylvania, hoping to find a Senator that will stick BY you once he’s elected…maybe even stay in his own party as well.

According to PennLive’s cited Quinnipiac poll, Toomey has regained the lead over Specter by 5 points while “Attorney General Tom Corbett, the leader for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, remains ahead of each of the three top Democratic contenders by double digits.”

All this while Obama’s approval numbers are down in PA as are the approval numbers for his health care reform package. According to the Quinnipiac poll, voters are still strongly against the idea of fighting for its repeal through the Attorneys General, but those numbers appear to be weakening. Time will tell, but in the meantime, Toomey’s turnaround (coupled with Corbett’s strong numbers) speak well for the trends moving forward to November.
