There is an online article at ABC News which suggests that Christine “Can’t Win” O’Donnell is like a Kamikaze pilot in the war of Delaware Politics…and that the non-resident Tea Party folks have somehow become her useful idiots, brought to bear on the poor defenseless Delaware GOP. Oh, and apparently Mike Castle is somehow a victim in their primary fight for the Senate seat left vacant by Joe Biden’s ascendancy to the Vice Presidency because O’Donnell is screwing up the State and National GOP’s master plan:

In Tuesday’s Delaware primary, the tea party movement may inflict its most devastating wound yet to the Republican establishment.

With an assist from Sarah Palin, tea party activists in Delaware are trying to defeat the Republican candidate with the best chance to win Joe Biden’s old Senate seat and nominate instead a candidate Republican leaders say has no chance of winning the general election in November.

See folks…this is a perfect example to illustrate that the “Republican establishment” just does not get the Tea Party, nor their basis for so much angst against our Political Heroes from BOTH parties.

I interviewed O’Donnell back in early June. I think very highly of her personally; she is enthusiastic, sincere, and motivated. But she is not the best Conservative politician in Delaware. She isn’t really even a politician at all, truth be told. And she is certainly not the State’s best new hope for turning it Red. With all that said, however, she is not pretending to be these things. She IS, however, the person that stood up and put her hat in the ring and volunteered to get involved and try to do something for her state despite so much opposition…most especially from within her own party.

I don’t care about all the baggage and the whatifs and all the accusations (true or not) that have been slung around by her opponents; these are but mere distractions from the issue at hand.

The Government is broken. The Tea Party has been energized to get up off their couches and get out on the streets to make their voices heard. They have succeeded, and have not focused solely on Democrats…but on a few Republicans as well (Mike Castle anyone?). They are making a difference, and the “establishment” hasn’t been able to figure out what to do about it, choosing instead to be either fair weather friends of the movement where expedient or detractors and critics otherwise. Tea Partiers *get* that. Christine O’Donnell *gets* that. Sharon Angle, and Ken Buck, and Dan Benishek…and a host of other newcomers out there…*GET* that.

Delaware will make its decision today, as will the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Whichever way these races go, two things are made clear in Delaware and across the country. First, the Republican party is on notice that they’re being challenged to defend their positions and they’re being watched. Second, and perhaps more importantly, every-day Americans are no longer willing to just do as they are instructed by their party leadership.

We’ll find out soon enough who can and can not win…but the winds of change within the Republican party blow strong out of Delaware, and they will blow stronger still in November.
