Harry Reid recently absolved himself of all responsibility for any of the troubles his fellow Nevadans are suffering these days when he suggested to ABC’s Jonathan Karl ‘that he doesn’t bear responsibility for the economic downturn that’s hit Nevada, noting that his home state experienced a huge boom over much of his time in the Senate, only to start to suffer during the Bush administration’ and suggested this:

“You know that I had nothing to do with the massive foreclosures here. You know that I had nothing to do with these unemployment figures.”

Given that Reid is the most powerful Democrat in the Senate…and arguably the most powerful in Congress (save for Pelosi in the House)…it should not sit well with residents of the Silver state (or sagebrush or battle born…whichever you prefer) that they elected someone to represent them in Washington who can NOT do anything FOR them in the hallowed halls of ‘we, the People’ and begs the question: why is he even there?

The Las Vegas Review Journal is reporting that Nevada is suffering an all-time high unemployment rate of 14.4%:

Neither a boost in private-sector hiring nor a shrinking labor force could rescue Nevada from yet another unemployment record in August.

The construction sector, restaurants and professional firms all added jobs in the month, but declines in Census jobs and other public-sector cuts offset that hiring to push statewide unemployment to an all-time high of 14.4 percent, the state Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation said this morning. That’s up from 14.3 percent in July and 12.5 percent in August 2009.

This is terrible news for people living in Nevada, and reflects a pathetic record for Reid, who clearly cares more about what goes on in DC than he does about what goes on in the very State responsible for sending him there to do their bidding.

Harry Reid can’t have it both ways. He can not on the one hand imply that he’s responsible for the boom years while insisting the bust of the Bush years…and now of the Obama years…is beyond his control.

He’s trying to, but Nevadans are smarter than that-ask each of the 14.4% of them now waiting in line for benefits Reid is responsible for bringing to them over which he insists he has no control for delivering.
