Much is being said these days about this so-called enthusiasm gap among Democrat voters. This “lack of enthusiasm” meme is being put out there, almost like a pre-emptive stage-setter, for helping justify the much-anticipated Democrat losses in the 2010 midterms.

I love me some Lefty navel-gazing with a little dose of hand-wringing thrown in for flavor.

We’re being told this “gap” is natural; there’s no President running…no history in the making…and there’s not much going on to incite people to get up out of their chairs and run to the polls. What Democrats refuse to see or acknowledge, however, is that the enthusiasm gap they foresee causing electoral doom is simply because they have failed to do what they were elected to do; govern.

More of us are out of work, out of our homes, defaulted on our debts, dying on poorly managed battlefields, or holding out our hands to a bloated Federal Government that doesn’t know how to manage a checkbook. With all we know of the Democrat way of doing business (and the net effects) why would anyone be expected to muster any enthusiasm for anything they’ve got to offer now?

And yet, were one so inclined to look long enough, one might find that mildly entertaining little crackpot out there in the pixie dust of the internets who fundamentally believes that this enthusiasm deficiency (like everything else on the planet) STILL stems from the evils and horrors of those demon beasts…the Republicans.

I’m not going to beat up on this guy, tempted though I might be. He is encouraging Democrats to give up, declare doom, stay home, and let Republicans have two years of control so they’ll screw things up badly enough that Democrats will finally want to get out and vote again…to protect the planet and save the children…or somesuch.

I’ll take that for now because a great deal can happen in two years, like replacing that Obama fellow running the Executive branch these days. Why NOT let the article’s author and the Left in general do our heavy lifting for us?:

Moreover, having squandered an unprecedented historical opportunity, Obama and the Democrats have done almost nothing constructive about the two most important issues of our time: averting the impending ecological catastrophe that is already unfolding before us; and weaning the United States off imperialism so that, as the empire crumbles, we can make a soft landing from which we, along with the rest of the world, will emerge better off. Indefinitely maintaining the occupation of Iraq, intensifying the war in Afghanistan, and waging or preparing to wage wars elsewhere is exactly the wrong way to proceed.

The Republicans might be no prize, but this batch of Democrats ain’t nothing to write home about either. The lost enthusiasm on the left is looking for a home on the other side of the aisle. The good news is that we’ll cost the country a whole lot less than the Dems have these past two years…maybe two years of our own can be spent recouping some of those losses.
