The whole world has gone [redacted] sideways.

Business Insider is reporting that the Obama Administration is going to take a pass on the Keystone XL pipeline.

You can decide for yourself whether you believe the environment will be saved now…and whether the evil big oil demons will righteously be deprived of making yet another profit by being in business and selling stuff people need at a price coming in higher than they paid out for the product they provide to consumers. Frankly, I don’t shive a git any more…there seems to be way too many people willing to go without transportation and energy and associated downline derivatives if it means they can punish businesses for being successful.

The Obama administration is expected to reject the controversial $7 billion Keystone Pipeline this afternoon, according to Fox News.

Transcanada will however be able to reapply with an alternate route going through Nebraska.

The administration will be unlikely to approve the pipeline under the tight timeline included in the payroll tax cut extension, which requires a decision by February 21.

I bring this news here to make a singular point: nobody cares about you out there…what you need, why you need it, or what you intend to do with it… so you better be damn sure you’re striving toward independence and self-sufficiency. If you aren’t then one of these days you’re going to pick up your head, look around, and ask just what the hell happened while you were trying to get on with your life.

[post script: I'd like to point out that Obama was able to announce his plans for a jobs bill... spend the next thirty days (and a bunch of American tax dollars for travel) chanting "pass this bill" a couple hundred times... only to see the bill defeated all the same. How is it, then, that - in 60 days - his Administration can't get a decision done about where, how, and whether this pipeline could go forward? Nevermind - I already know the answer; the way to get things done around here is to just kick the cans down the road and dodge, deflect, deny, defer, delay... and deny a little more.]
